Stage 7 results

The 36ONE Songo Specialized team of Burry Stander and Christoph Sauser walked away with top honours as overall winners of this year’s exciting Absa Cape Epic. With a ten minute and 51 second lead time at the start this morning, Stander and Sauser finished the last eight days in an overall time of 28:44.44,0. It is the first time in the history of the race that a South African is part of the winning team.
In second place in an overall time of 28:51.52,8 were the German team of Hannes Genze and Jochen Käss (Multivan Merida Biking), with the Bulls, Karl Platt and Stefan Sahm, in third place overall in 29:05.53,7.

All Exxaro teams crossed the finish line in Grand Finale!
The last 68km might have been short, but it wasn’t easy! Old Viljoen’s Pass and Nuweberg reminded the riders that it was not over yet.

But, after a long and tough week (physically and emotionally), all three Exxaro teams crossed the finish line in the Grand Finale hosted at Lourensford Wine Estate in Somerset West!

The Exxaro Cycling and Marathon Clubs, as well as guests and representatives from the main sponsors, participated in the Cape Times’ Vigne a Vigne mountain bike race and Vineyard Run. Although tough, all entrants really enjoyed the challenge. Jurie Geldenhuys (one of Exxaro’s board members) and his wife, Cilla also finished the 27km Vigne a Vigne event. In the 15km Vineyard Run, Godfrey Mokoena and Kgotso Kobo from the Exxaro Marathon Club finished in 2nd and 3rd place respectively.

To co-inside with the Absa Cape Epic’s Grand Finale, Exxaro also announced a professional sport sponsorship today. Together with Deutsche Bank and Fritz Pienaar Cycles, the group will sponsor an elite mountain biker for one year. The sponsored athlete, Justice Makhale, achieved a 5th place in the 50km Vigne a Vigne race today.

Exxaro is powering possibilities, on all levels and in many ways!
