PURPOSE:

· To contribute to health & wellbeing of employees

• To provide occupational and primary health care services and support the implementation of HIV/TB programmes.

 

MAJOR CHALLENGES:

· Impact of non-compliance to Occupational Health practices on business, financially and ito reputational value. • Rate at which incidents occur and availability of medical response. • Ensure that Supplies are available and client demand can be met at clinics.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certificate Occupational Health ( Essential/Minimum )
  • Diploma Nursing ( Essential/Minimum )

 

EXPERIENCE:

3 years - Occupational health nursing and TB/HIV related training, TB/HIV management. (Essential/Minimum) Operational

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Certificate of Fitness ( Essential/Minimum )
  • Dispensing License ( Essential/Minimum )
  • Psychometric Assessment ( Essential/Minimum )
  • Reg: South African Nursing Council ( Essential/Minimum )
  • Reg: South African Occup Health Society ( Essential/Minimum )

 

POSITION TASKS:

 

The incumbent will inter alia be responsible for the following:

Administration and Support Services

  • Assist with periodical, annual, pre-employment & exit medicals.
  • Monitor storage and availability of medical records for identification of health issues & provision of appropriate courses of treatment
  • Support the occupational medical or health practitioner at the medical station/clinic
  • Process medical aid documentation, costs of private and benefit member's treatment accounts and resolve employee queries.

 

Best Practice and Knowledge Management

  • Maintain internal/external professional networks
  • Assess and evaluate alignment of occupational and primary health services with best practice principles
  • Operate within professional scope of practice
  • Ensure ethical and professional conduct
  • Keep up to date with relevant legislation.

 

Business Performance and Operations

  • Coordinate and implement occupational and primary health care services
  • Conduct nursing diagnosis and recommend or implement treatment where applicable
  • Advise patients on occupational and general health
  • Monitor the progress of patients and take appropriate action where necessary
  • In collaboration with occupational hygienist, monitor employee exposure to hazardous substances and undertake statutory/non-statutory health surveillances
  • Where required, report for standby duty and perform required emergency medical services and administer meds.

 

Compliance, Governance and Assurance

  • Adhere to relevant SHE legislation, statutory requirements (e.g. Nursing Act, National Health Act etc.) and company specific policies & procedures
  • Adhere to quality assurance standards and programs.

Customer and Client Relationship Management

  • Assist in the development of occupational health services and processes for administrative, systems & record keeping
  • Assist in the evaluation of discipline-specific standards, principles
  • & practice to enable planning and implementation of health programmes.

 

Internal Business Processes

  • Manage occupational injuries, occupational and chronic diseases and safe keeping of medical records in accordance with legislation
  • Report and investigate health & hygiene incidents
  • Implement Exxaro HIV/AIDS and TB programmes
  • Contribute to the management of chronic diseases
  • Assist with the monitoring of TB and HIV transmissions
  • Educate employees on the prevention of HIV, TB and related diseases
  • Ensure employees are adhering to their treatment for general health diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and cholesterol
  • Ensure that all employees are being given awareness training and counselling sessions on a daily basis.

Safe and Healthy Work Environment

  • Adhere to all health/safety practices and promote good housekeeping on an ongoing basis
  • Address all unsafe practices, potential hazardous situations and rectify/report to superior
  • Comply with SHE and technical requirements
  • Wear applicable PPE at all time.

Specialised Support

  • Assist in implementing medical & hygiene procedures and codes of practice
  • Daily operations of medical station; monitoring resource allocations, delegating tasks and supervising provision of health services
  • Ensure quality control of service delivery
  • Ensure proper maintenance and replenishment of equipment and consumables.
