Exxaro on COVID-19

On 31 December 2019, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported a cluster of pneumonia cases in Wuhan City, China. ‘Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2’ (SARS-CoV-2) was confirmed as the causative agent of what we now know as ‘Coronavirus Disease 2019’ (COVID-19). Since then, the virus has spread to more than 100 countries, including South Africa. Since then, a state of national disaster has been declared in South Africa. As Exxaro we are closely monitoring all updates and advice from the relevant organisations, including the National Department of Health, the Department of Minerals Resources and Energy and Minerals Council South Africa. As a result, we are taking several precautionary measures to ensure the health and safety of our employees, customers, clients, service providers and other stakeholders.

At our Belfast digitally connect coal mine, a dedicated medical practitioner addressed the team on COVID-19 interventions, and ensured that all participants kept 1-meter apart - driving the importance of social distancing.

Sterilization

As seen with our ECC mine and across all the business units in our operational communities, we have taken extra care all around by ensuring regular sanitizing and cleaning for the safety of our essential services employees, who have been reporting for duty during the lockdown period.
