Leeuwpan Lifex Extension

The optimisation project will enhance Leeuwpan's performance

Leeuwpan Lifex Extension

Project Overview

Producing high-quality thermal and metallurgical coal to both the domestic and export markets, the expansion of the site’s new OI pit will necessitate the relocation of 19 households, including the provision of houses and related services. It also requires re-alignment of the existing R50 and Silica Mine road, as well as extensive wetlands rehabilitation to ensure the health and sustainability of the area.

Construction is due to be completed in March 2018, with full production capability being reached approximately one year after handover.

The addition of a new DMS plant will increase output as well as efficiency, and the new plant will feature the flexibility to produce differently sized coal, including Peas and Duff, as well as Crush and Stack.
